459. a masterful Antique Baluch Rug

Antique Baluch possibly Aimaq rug

459. Provenance: Baluch tribal rug, Khorassan, NE Persia or very possible Herat, Western Afghanistan

Age: Circa 1880

Condition: Good for age, but some wear, and corrosion of the dark browns (common in old Baluchis).

Notes: A classic antique Baluch design of latch-key hooked repeated diamonds. All the colours are natural, and the wool is typically glossy. There is lovely abrush (natural variation in colour resulting from dye batches or variations in absorbancy of hand-spun wool) in the indigo blue. The main border design is attractive and unususal, and the wonderful kilims are (unusually) still intact.
