627. a jaunty old Baluchi tribal rug
627. Provenance: Baluchi or related tribes, Eastern Persia/Western Afghanistan
Size: 216 x 120 cm
Age: Circa 1920
Condition: Good for age. Strong abrush, with a change in dyes clearly evident.
Notes: A good-looking and happy tribal piece. The border, particulary the outer one, is typical of Afghan Baluch pieces, but the colour scheme of the guls is brighter and more lively than normal, suggesting proximity with Persia (and more available dyestuffs). Strong variations in tone of the main field hint at a change of dye - perhaps these nomads had to move on to new pastures, and completed later.
